The specialized Old Catholic Theology library comprises around 23,000 printed volumes, twenty-seven serial publications, and seventy current journals, including the ‘Internationale Kirchliche Zeitschrift’, which has been published in Bern since 1893.
The library contains works on patristics and church history from the seventeenth to twenty-first centuries, on treatises and unique questions of systematic theology, on ecumenical theology (predominantly Anglican and Eastern Church theology and history), and liturgical studies, including an extensive collection of liturgical literature from the Eastern and Western Churches.
Library stocks include a specialised collection on the history and theology of Christianity, Old Catholicism and Jansenism. The archives of the Old Catholic Churches of the Union of Utrecht (responsible: Prof. Dr Urs von Arx) are also located in Bern, which affords ideal research opportunities on site
